Chandigarh, 30th July, 2015: In a one of its kind aggressive model initiative that underpins the brand philosophy of 'Best or Nothing', Mercedes-Benz today launched the exclusive 'designo' platform along with three products that sets new benchmark in modern luxury, design aesthetics, technology and bespoke craftsmanship. The finest example representing Mercedes-Benz's philosophy of sensuous clarity - the S 500 Coupé; the breathtaking and irresistible - AMG S 63 Coupé and the timeless work of handcraftsmanship, the AMG G 63 'Crazy Colour' Edition, were launched for the Indian market by Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.

designo trim elements: designo trim elements, whether made in wood, piano lacquer, carbon fibre or stone; are created out of the finest materials. designo wood trim elements are selected, sorted, stained, lacquered with several clear coats and finally polished, all by hand. Raw materials are thus transformed into designo creation with exquisite display of handcraftsmanship. Similarly, designo stone trim is fashioned from granite following a patented procedure which includes a careful selection, cutting into water thin sheets and finished. A Piano lacquer trim for instance is created with similar meticulous care that goes into creating a grand piano by coating the trim elements by up to ten layers of lacquer.

Exterior design:

Mercedes-Benz's new S-Class Coupé combines the proportions of a large, sporty coupé with modern luxury and pioneering technology. Optionally available are the expressive LED high performance headlamps, featuring 94 Swarovski crystals, which produce a uniquely striking appearance. 34 angular crystals form the flare-shaped daytime running lamps, with 60 round-shaped crystals making up the turn indicator lamps.

The S 500 Coupé is available with a 4663 cc V8 engine and has a rated output of 335 kW (455 hp) and its torque level peaks at 700 Nm. The sporty and dynamic motoring experience is significantly enhanced by the emotional sound produced by the exhaust system.

The S 500 Coupé is characterized by typical rear-wheel-drive proportions, emphasized by the hallmark Mercedes dropping line. With a wheelbase of 2945 mm, the Coupé is 5027 mm long, with a width of 1899 mm and a height of 1411 mm.


Interior:

The interior of the new S 500 Coupé is an expression of the Mercedes-Benz design idiom- sensuous clarity. The alluring combination of sculptured, sensuous interior features (and components) with the clear geometry of the basic architecture is the expression of an avant-garde design philosophy. A perceived value, hand-crafted look and outstanding tactile quality appeal to all the senses of the occupants so that the interior represents the ultimate in 'modern luxury'.

The S 500 Coupé's dashboard fascinates with its architecture, giving rise to a vehicle of unique character in the upper coupé segment. The large, two-part wide-screen format TFT display is placed in a prominent 'hovering' position. Under the display, the sportily elevated centre console extends to the vehicle rear. All lids and armrests are lavishly covered in leather.

Both the front and the rear seats have a pronounced sporty character, the two rear seats are designed as individual seats. The standard available exclusive nappa leather includes seats in diamond backstitching pattern. The front seat belts are integrated in the rear side panels without interrupting the waistline with windows open; seat belt extenders make them easily accessible for the seat occupants.

The S 500 Coupé is optionally available with MAGIC SKY CONTROL giving the Coupé a lighter appearance. The MAGIC SKY CONTROL makes it possible to switch the transparency of the roof at the push of a button, from light to dark.

AMG S 63 Coupé:

Exterior design: A combination of sensual purity and superior sportiness

The AMG S 63 Coupé boasts of exciting looks which underlines its sporty performance: it exudes dominance and hallmark Mercedes-Benz sensual purity. The bold design is the highlight for the exciting technology of this new dream car. The front end is dominated by the three-dimensional AMG 'twin-blade' radiator grille in silver chrome. The A-wing is located below the radiator grille. This three-dimensional air-ducting element is painted in the body colour, spans the entire width of the front apron and displays the stylized 'A' that is a hallmark of AMG vehicles. Together with the lower feature line, the chrome inserts make the AMG S 63 exude dynamism even when it is at a standstill. Further eye-catching features of the side design include the large AMG forged wheels. 'V8 BITURBO' lettering in a new, contemporary typography on the front wings is another hallmark AMG design touch. . The two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system with sports flaps are perfectly integrated into the diffuser insert. Stylized, vertical air outlets in the rear apron assume the role of a defined spoiler lip and optimize aerodynamics. The 'S 63 AMG' model designation in a new, contemporary typography below the tail lamps adds the perfect finishing touch to the rear-end design.


Interiors: A combination of luxury and exclusivity

The instrument panel of the AMG S 63 Coupé almost seamlessly transitions into the doors in a wrap-around design. High-quality materials and fine workmanship are combined with a sporty, exclusive design idiom. Fine AMG exclusive nappa leather with piping and AMG badges on all four seat backrests, together with the embossed AMG emblem on the armrest of the front centre console create an exquisite atmosphere on board. The newly developed AMG sports seats with electrical adjustment, memory function and seat heating offer the driver and front passenger optimum lateral support. The new three-spoke AMG sports steering wheel with its distinctively contoured rim and perforated leather in the grip area allows perfect vehicle control. Another feature displaying the hallmark AMG look is the high-resolution TFT colour display and an AMG instrument cluster with two animated round dials.


AMG Lightweight Performance:

The AMG S 63 Coupé benefits from the systematic implementation of the AMG lightweight performance strategy. Lightweight construction has reduced the vehicle weight by 65 kilograms – even though the car has a higher output and more extensive standard equipment. Furthermore, the entire outer skin and the front end of the body are made of aluminium. The reduced weight improves driving dynamics and cuts fuel consumption, the AMG S 63 Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and goes on to reach a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited).


AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission:

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission combines perfectly with the V8 biturbo engine. Maximum agility and exciting dynamics are the two key strengths of this transmission, which is used exclusively at AMG. Drivers can configure their own personal set-up, depending on their driving style. There are three modes to choose from: 'C' (Controlled Efficiency), 'S' (Sport) and 'M' (Manual). The ECO start/stop function is fitted as standard.

Systematic lightweight construction: AMG forged wheels as standard

The AMG S 63 Coupé is equipped with AMG forged light-alloy wheels as standard. This design reduces weight while at the same time increasing strength. The lower unsprung masses result in advantages in terms of handling and spring/damper element response. In the standard specification, the AMG S 63 Coupé is fitted with multi-spoke forged wheels painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish with front as 255/45 R 19 and rear being 285/40 R 19 tyres.


Curve tilting function:

With the curve tilting function the AMG S 63 Coupé introduces a world first for series-production cars. The curve tilting function makes the Coupé lean into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier. The lateral acceleration acting upon occupants is reduced in a way akin to when driving in a steep curve, and passengers sit more firmly. On country roads in particular, the new curve tilting function enhances motoring enjoyment and comfort.


MAGIC BODY CONTROL:

The MAGIC BODY CONTROL suspension system, standard available for the AMG S 63 Coupé includes the new curve tilting function in addition to the Active Body Control (ABC) and ROAD SURFACE SCAN functions. With Active Body Control the suspension struts are equipped with hydraulic cylinders, in order to adjust the force in each strut individually. Depending upon the curve of the road driven, the curve tilting function adapts the preload for individual spring. This allows the vehicle to incline automatically and continuously in fractions of a second on bends – depending on the road angle and vehicle speed. The innovative suspension system detects curves using a stereo camera behind the windscreen, registering the curvature of the road up to 15 meters ahead, and an additional lateral acceleration sensor.



The AMG G 63 'Crazy Colour' Edition:

After 35 years of conquering lonely lands and crowded cities, winning accolades and earning loyalty, Mercedes-Benz India launched an exclusive edition of the AMG G 63: The Crazy Colour Edition. As the G enters its 36th year of production, Mercedes-Benz now offers three additional and exclusive paint choices for the iconic off-roader's patrons.

These new colour package is available for customers wishing to give their AMG G-Class an even more personal look. This unique level of custom-tailoring is made possible by its handcraftsmanship. The 'Crazy Colour' Edition package with its combination of distinctive colours and obsidian black add-on parts and colour co-ordinated topstitching in the interior, lends the Mercedes-AMG G-Class an expressive, stylish and imposing appearance and turns it into a visual delight.

The exclusive Crazy Colour AMG G 63 stands apart with a host of features including three exclusive exterior paint finishes (solar beam, sunset beam and alien green), 50.8 cm (20-inch) AMG 5-spoke wheels in black, designo leather in black, AMG carbon fibre trim and AMG performance steering wheel amongst others.


Exterior and interior design:

The Crazy Colour package lends the vehicle an expressive and stylish appearance which enhances the imposing and personalized character and sportiness of the SUV. Detachable parts such as the mirrors, front and rear bumpers, wheel arch extensions and the ring around the spare wheel cover as well as the roof features obsidian black enunciations, for all the colour variants. The interior topstitching is colour-matched to the paintwork. The AMG G 63 'Crazy Colour' Edition features 50.8 cm (20-inch) AMG 5-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matt black with a high-sheen finish.
