Sri Lankan national sent to judicial custody in Chennai train blasts case

Chennai, May 8 (ANI): A court in Chennai sent Sri Lankan national Zakir Hussain, a suspected Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent , who was arrested in connection with twin train blasts at the Chennai Central railway station, for five day judicial custody on Thursday.

Hussain is suspected to have connection with the twin bomb blasts on the Bangalore-Guwahati train in Chennai that killed a woman techie on May 01.

The Q branch of southern Tamil Nadu police had sought nine days custody as they were probing the link between Hussain and the twin blasts, but the court only pronounced three days custody which ended on Thursday.

The accused was brought in 13th Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Chennai that sent him to judicial custody till May 13.

"Today, Q branch police produced the accused as police custody is ending today. The court ordered to remand him in Puzhal jail till May 13 for judicial custody," said lawyer of Hussain, Zainul Abdeen.

Hussain was arrested in a joint operation by Central intelligence agencies and the Tamil Nadu police on April 30 in Chennai.

He was allegedly on an assignment to recruit people for terror activities in the southern states and circulate fake Indian currency notes.

"He has not accepted anything. What he is telling the police is, all is false. He said he is only a businessman. We will see in the status report after that we will tell the truth," added Abdeen.

Two bombs went off on a train in Chennai on May 01, killing a woman and wounding nine people, officials said. (ANI)
