Headless body of woman found in W Delhi
The headless, naked body of a 26-year-old woman was found stuffed in a travel bag near a bus stop in west Delhi’s Janakpuri late on Wednesday night.
Police said they were still in the process of establishing the identity of the woman. They suspect she was murdered somewhere else and her body was dumped in Jankpuri to prevent identification and delay investigation.
A case of murder has been registered at the Janakpuri police station. Several teams have been formed to investigate the case. While one of the teams has been tasked to establish the woman’s identity, the other teams are making efforts to recover the head of the woman.
They are also preparing a list of women in their 20s who have gone missing in the last one week in Delhi and adjoining states.
A senior police officer said the crime was reported around 11 pm when a passerby discovered an unattended bag lying near A-1 bus stop at Pankha Road in Janakpuri A Block and called the police control room (PCR).
A police team along with teams of the bomb detection and disposal squad and dog brigade arrived and inspected the bag.
“After it was confirmed that the bag did not contain any explosives, the police officers opened it and found a fastened jute sack. They found the headless body wrapped in plastic sheets and stuffed inside,” said the senior officer.
The body was later sent to a government hospital’s mortuary where it will be preserved for the next 72 hours.
According to the officer, they did not find anything inside the bag that could help them establish the woman’s identity. All the police stations across the city and in NCR had been informed about the matter, added the officer.
